He began playing baseball as a child, eventually leading him to his career as a second baseman for several Major League Baseball (MLB) teams. Kennedy first gained national recognition for his athletic abilities when he played college baseball for California State University, Northridge.
Following his college career, Kennedy was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in 1997, where he got his start in the MLB.
