Addison Russell is an American professional baseball player who was born on January 23, 1994, in Pensacola, Florida. Russell was drafted 11th overall by the Oakland Athletics in the 2012 MLB draft after graduating from Pace High School. In 2013, he made his debut in Major League Baseball with the A's.
In 2014, Russell was traded to the Chicago Cubs, and he helped the team win the World Series in 2016. He was a key player in the Cubs’ success, providing solid defense and contributing to the team’s offense. However, his time with the Cubs was tarnished by allegations of domestic violence, and he was suspended for the final 11 games of the 2018 season.
Russell was non-tendered by the Cubs in December 2019, but he signed a one-year deal with the Kansas City Royals for the 2020 season. Despite the shortened season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he had a strong performance with a .308 batting average and five home runs. Russell was then signed by the Washington Nationals for the 2021 season where he is expected to continue his baseball career. Despite the bumps in the road, Russell remains a talented athlete with a bright future in baseball.
