Al Dark Autographs

Al Dark was an American baseball player and manager, born on January 7, 1922, in Comanche, Oklahoma. He started his baseball career as a shortstop in 1946 with the Boston Braves. In his rookie season, Dark batted .322 and helped the Braves win the National League pennant. He was named Rookie of the Year in 1948 by Sporting News. Dark played for other teams during his twelve-year career, including the New York Giants, the St. Louis Cardinals, and the Philadelphia Phillies.
After his playing career, Dark became a manager. He had his first managerial job in 1961 with the San Francisco Giants, the team he played for from 1950 to 1956. Dark went on to manage other teams, including the Cleveland Indians, the Oakland Athletics, and the San Diego Padres. In 1974, Dark was named Manager of the Year by The Sporting News after leading the Oakland Athletics to the World Series title. He was inducted into the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame in 1982.
Dark's impact on the game of baseball is not limited to his playing and managerial career. He was also known for his toughness and work ethic, inspiring many young players. Dark passed away on November 13, 2014. His legacy in baseball is remembered by those who played with him, those who played for him, and those who watched him play and manage.
