Al Oliver is a former American professional baseball player who played from 1968 to 1985. Oliver was born in Portsmouth, Ohio and played his college baseball at Ohio University before being drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1968. He made his Major League Baseball (MLB) debut in September of that year, playing in just eight games. Over the course of his career, Oliver played for numerous teams including the Texas Rangers, Montreal Expos, San Francisco Giants, Philadelphia Phillies, and Los Angeles Dodgers. He was a seven-time All-Star and won the National League batting title in 1982 with a .331 average while playing for the Expos. Oliver was known for his consistency at the plate and was particularly skilled at hitting to all fields, which made him difficult to defend against.
