Alan Wiggins Autographs
Alan Wiggins was a professional baseball player who played in the Major League Baseball (MLB) during the 1980s. Born on February 17th, 1958, in Los Angeles, California, Wiggins started playing baseball early in life. In high school, he excelled in baseball, football, and track, earning him a baseball scholarship to the University of California, Berkeley. He was selected by the California Angels in the third round of the 1977 amateur draft, but he opted to pursue his college education.
After his college days, Wiggins signed as a free agent with the San Diego Padres in 1981. Wiggins played second base for the Padres, and he quickly established himself as one of the best players on the team. In 1983, he set a National League record for most stolen bases in a season by a second baseman, stealing 70 bases in total. He also led the league in runs scored (106) that same year, earning him a spot in the All-Star Game.
Wiggins had his best season in 1984 as he led the Padres to their first World Series appearance. He hit .258 with 70 runs scored and 66 stolen bases in 141 games, helping the team win the National League Championship. Despite their loss in the World Series to the Detroit Tigers, Wiggins was named a National League All-Star for the second consecutive year. His career was cut short when he was diagnosed with HIV in 1985 and passed away in 1991 at the age of 33. Alan Wiggins will always be remembered as a great player who excelled on the field and was an inspiration to many off the field.
