Johnson began his professional baseball career playing with the Phillies’ Single-A team, where he hit .314 with nine home runs in his first season. He quickly moved up through the ranks and made his major league debut in 1964 with the Phillies. Over the next 13 years, Johnson played for several teams, including the Reds, Angels, Indians, Rangers, Yankees, and Tigers. He had his best season in 1970 with the California Angels, where he hit .329, led the American League in hits, and won the batting title. Johnson was also known for his speed on the base paths and his outfield skills, earning him a spot on the All-Star team that year.

Despite his success on the field, Johnson had a reputation for being difficult to manage and had several run-ins with teammates and coaches. This, along with injuries, led to his retirement from baseball in 1976. However, Johnson’s talent and achievements in the sport have not been forgotten, and he was inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 1999. Read even more about Alex Johnson at Wikipedia
