Andy Green is a former American professional baseball player and current manager of the San Diego Padres in Major League Baseball. He was born on July 7, 1977, in Lexington, Kentucky, and grew up playing baseball since his school days. He was a middle infielder and excelled in baseball at his high school in Kentucky. Green went on to attend the University of Kentucky. He played baseball for a year in college before he transferred to the University of Louisville to play baseball for the Cardinals.
Green was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2000 in the 24th round. He played as a utility infielder in the minor leagues for eight seasons, including two years playing in the major leagues for the Diamondbacks. After his playing career, he became a coach and managed a minor league team for the Diamondbacks for three seasons. Green was named the 19th manager in the history of the San Diego Padres in 2015. During his tenure as manager, Green has led the Padres to several successful seasons, and the team continues to make inroads in the highly competitive National League West.
