Angel Echevarria was born on May 25, 1971 in the city of Vega Baja, Puerto Rico. He was a professional baseball player who played as an outfielder in Major League Baseball (MLB) for several teams including the Colorado Rockies, Milwaukee Brewers, Chicago Cubs, and Texas Rangers. Echevarria began his professional baseball career in 1992 when he signed as an undrafted free agent with the Colorado Rockies. He spent several seasons in the minor-league before being called up to the MLB in 1996. In his debut season, he played in 89 games and had an impressive batting average of .323 with 12 home runs and 49 runs batted in. Echevarria continued to play for the Rockies until 1998 and recorded a career-high of 108 games played, 14 home runs, and 54 runs batted in, during the 1997 season.

In 2000, Echevarria was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers where he played until 2002. He then briefly played for the Chicago Cubs in 2003 and ended his MLB career with the Texas Rangers in 2004. Throughout his career, he played in a total of 500 games, had 38 home runs, 157 runs batted in, and a batting average of .280. Despite his short-lived MLB career, Echevarria had a huge impact on the baseball world, especially for his hometown of Vega Baja in Puerto Rico, where he was remembered as one of the greatest baseball players to hail from the city.
