Art Ditmar Autographs
Arthur John Ditmar, also known as Art Ditmar, was a former right-handed starting pitcher in Major League Baseball (MLB). He was born on April 3, 1929, in Winthrop, Massachusetts. Ditmar began his professional career in the minor leagues with the Joplin Miners in 1949. After playing for various minor league teams, Ditmar was eventually called up to the MLB by the Philadelphia Athletics in 1954.
During his 13-year MLB career, Ditmar played for several teams, including the Kansas City Athletics, New York Yankees, and San Francisco Giants. His most successful years were spent with the Yankees, where he won two World Series championships in 1958 and 1960. In 1958, Ditmar went 13-9 with a 3.25 ERA and had 110 strikeouts. He was then named to the All-Star team in 1959. Over his career, Ditmar won a total of 72 games and had a career ERA of 3.98.
After retiring from baseball in 1962, Ditmar became a pitching coach and spent several years coaching young pitchers. He also remained involved in the baseball community, often participating in charity events and old-timer games. On June 11, 2020, Art Ditmar passed away at the age of 91. His contributions to the game of baseball and legacy as a successful pitcher will not be forgotten.
