Hedges spent several years in the minor leagues, working his way up through the Padres' farm system. He made his major league debut in May 2015, and showed real promise as a defensive catcher. Hedges quickly became known for his fantastic defensive skills, including his ability to shut down opposing baserunners with his quick release, strong arm, and accurate throws.
