Bill Almon Autographs
Bill Almon was born on November 21, 1952, in Providence, Rhode Island. He was an American professional baseball player and played in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a shortstop and third baseman. Almon was drafted first overall by the San Diego Padres in the 1974 MLB Draft, making him the first player to be chosen first overall in the draft history. His baseball career spanned from 1974-1988, during which he played for seven different teams.
Almon spent his first five seasons of his career with the San Diego Padres, where he played both shortstop and third base. In the 1977 season, he set his career-high of 11 home runs, which helped him to earn a spot on the National League All-Star team in 1978. After his time with the Padres, he played for the Montreal Expos, New York Mets, Chicago White Sox, Oakland Athletics, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Philadelphia Phillies. While Almon's playing time was irregular with most of the teams he played for, he was recognized for his versatility and ability to play multiple positions.
Throughout his career, Almon amassed a total of 37 home runs, 377 RBIs, and a .254 batting average. While he was not a prolific hitter, he contributed significantly to his teams' success with his versatility, consistent play, and leadership qualities. After retiring from professional baseball, Almon continued his involvement in the sport as a minor league coach and manager. He also worked as an analyst for the Boston Red Sox on their television broadcasts. As of now, Bill Almon is enjoying his retirement and cherishing his baseball memories.
