Bill White, an accomplished Major League Baseball player, was born on January 28th, 1934, in Lakewood, Florida. He began his professional baseball career in 1953 as a minor league player for the New York Giants. In 1957, White was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals, where he played for eight seasons. During his tenure with the Cardinals, White led the league in runs-batted-in (RBI) with 102 in 1964, earned three consecutive Gold Glove awards from 1960-1962, and was named to five All-Star teams. He was an integral part of the Cardinals' 1964 World Series victory, batting .286 with one home run and six RBI in seven games. In 1969, White was traded to the Philadelphia Phillies, where he played for two seasons before retiring in 1970.

After retiring from baseball, White pursued a career as a broadcaster and journalist. He worked as the play-by-play announcer for the New York Yankees for eighteen years before retiring in 1996. White also worked as a journalist for the New York Times, covering the 1986 World Series and authoring several books about baseball. His contributions to the world of baseball have been recognized by his induction into the Cardinals Hall of Fame and the Baseball Reliquary's Shrine of the Eternals.
