In his rookie year, Conigliaro hit just .224 but showed promise with eight home runs in 206 at-bats. He followed up with a better season in 1970 with a .266 batting average with 18 home runs and 58 RBIs. He helped the Red Sox win the American League Pennant in 1975 and was later acquired by the Milwaukee Brewers in 1976 but his injuries limited him to a total of 14 games. Nevertheless, the Athletics acquired him in 1977 but his career ended due to a severe shoulder injury. Conigliaro's statistical achievements are modest, but his legacy is preserved in baseball history as an inspiration to those who endure career-ending injuries.

After retiring from baseball, Conigliaro remained involved in the sport by working as a coach and running youth baseball clinics. Despite his short career as a player, Conigliaro will always be remembered for his natural talent and passion for the game. Beyond baseball, his contributions to the field of cardiology were just as significant. He went on to earn a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Padua, Italy in 1983. In later years, he worked as a cardiologist, leaving behind an impressive legacy in both baseball and medicine. Billy Conigliaro died on February 9, 2021, in Beverly, Massachusetts.
