Billy Gardner was born on July 19th, 1927, in Waterford, Connecticut. As a teenager, Gardner displayed exceptional baseball abilities that afforded him the opportunity to play in the farm league of the Boston Red Sox. However, it was in 1954 that Gardner debuted as a Major League Baseball (MLB) player for the Baltimore Orioles. He played as an infielder and represented the Orioles for three years before joining the traveling team, the Kansas City Athletics. Gardner made history when he was traded to the New York Giants in 1958 and then again to the Minnesota Twins in 1960, becoming one of the few players to be traded twice in a year.
