Allison made his Major League debut in 1958 and quickly established himself as a powerful hitter. In his first full season, he hit 30 home runs and was named the American League Rookie of the Year. He spent most of his career with the Minnesota Twins, where he became a fan favorite and was a key player in their 1965 World Series championship team. Overall, Allison played 13 seasons in the Major Leagues and finished with a career batting average of .255, 256 home runs, and 796 runs batted in.

In addition to his on-field accomplishments, Allison was also known for his leadership skills and was a respected voice in the Twins clubhouse. After retiring from baseball, he stayed involved in the game as a coach and broadcaster. Sadly, Allison passed away in 1995 at the age of 60, but his impact on the game of baseball lives on.
