Bob Doerr Autographs
Robert Doerr, better known as Bob Doerr, was a professional baseball player who played as a second baseman. Born on April 7, 1918, in Los Angeles, California, Doerr was a child prodigy in baseball, and he started playing semi-pro baseball at the age of sixteen. In 1937, he started his career in professional baseball with the Hollywood Stars of the Pacific Coast League.
Doerr's career took off when he was signed by the Boston Red Sox in 1938. Doerr quickly made his mark in the league, leading the league in double plays for five years straight, and being awarded the All-Star game eight times. Doerr played for the Red Sox for his entire career, which spanned 14 seasons. He had a lifetime batting average of .288, with 2,042 hits, 223 home runs, and 1247 runs batted in. He retired in 1951 after struggling with knee problems for several years.
In 1986, Doerr was inducted into the baseball hall of fame. His jersey number, four, was also retired by the Boston Red Sox. Doerr was known for his sportsmanship and integrity, and he worked hard to promote baseball throughout his life. After retirement, he was a hitting instructor for the Toronto Blue Jays and worked as a scout. Bob Doerr died on November 13, 2017, at the age of 99. His legacy remains as one of the greatest second basemen of all time.
