Bob Shaw

Bob Shaw, born in 1933 in New York, was a prominent American baseball player in the 1950s and 1960s. Shaw made his debut for the Detroit Tigers in 1957 as a starting pitcher. He played for several other teams in the next decade, including the Milwaukee Braves, the San Francisco Giants, the Chicago Cubs, the New York Mets, and the St. Louis Cardinals. During his tenure with the White Sox, Shaw was considered one of the best pitchers in the league. He helped the team win the American League Championship in 1959, which they went on to lose to the Los Angeles Dodgers in a six-game World Series. In the same year, Shaw went 18-6 with a 2.69 ERA, earning him the coveted Sporting News Pitcher of the Year award.

Bob Shaw’s baseball career spanned from 1957 to 1967, with a lifetime record of 108 wins and 98 losses in 319 games. He was known for his fastball and intimidating presence on the mound. After retiring from baseball, Shaw returned to his hometown of New York and worked in the printing industry for several years before his death in 2010. Despite his death, he remains one of the most revered and respected players in White Sox history, and his legacy as one of the greatest pitchers of his era continues to inspire baseball enthusiasts today.
