Will is best remembered for his stellar defensive play as one of the National League's top second basemen of the 1950s. His excellent range and quickness made him a top defensive player, earning him both All-Star and Gold Glove awards. During his career, Will batted .260 with 41 home runs and 342 RBIs. He is also remembered for being a pioneer in terms of bringing the use of the protective helmet in baseball. Will began using a helmet in 1952 after suffering multiple head injuries, and soon after, other players followed his example.

After retiring as a player in 1962, Will entered coaching and managerial roles. He managed the Cubs for parts of two seasons before becoming a coach for the Montreal Expos in the late 1970s. Bob Will passed away on July 25, 2008, in Fresno, California, at the age of 82, leaving behind a legacy as one of the most excellent second basemen in baseball history. In honor of his career accomplishments, the Cubs dedicated a plaque in his name at Wrigley Field in 2017. Read even more about Bob Will at Wikipedia
