Bobby Richardson is a former American professional baseball player who spent his entire career playing for the New York Yankees. Richardson was born on August 19, 1935, in Sumter, South Carolina. Richardson made his debut with the Yankees in 1955, and went on to play for the team for the next twelve seasons. During his career, Richardson was known for being a solid defensive player and a superb hitter. He was a seven-time All-Star and won five Gold Glove Awards. In the 1960 World Series, Richardson was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) after hitting .367 with 12 hits, including two home runs, and eight runs batted in. Richardson was also a part of the Yankees' World Series-winning teams in 1958, 1961, and 1962.

After retiring from baseball in 1966, Richardson became a coach for the Yankees and later went on to coach for several other teams. In 1985, he was inducted into the South Carolina Athletic Hall of Fame, and in 2008 he was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Throughout his career, Richardson was known for his competitiveness, his work ethic, and his ability to perform in clutch situations.
