Bobby Thomson was an American professional baseball player who played for the New York Giants during his career. He was born on October 25, 1923, in Glasgow, Scotland, but grew up in Staten Island, New York. Thomson started his baseball career with the Giants in 1946 and played for them until 1953. Thomson is widely known for his legendary “Shot Heard ‘Round the World”. It is one of the most memorable moments in baseball history. It refers to the home run Thomson hit in the bottom of the ninth inning of the National League playoff game in 1951 against the Brooklyn Dodgers at the Polo Grounds. The hit was a three-run homer that helped the Giants win the game 5-4 and advance to the World Series. The event is remembered by many as one of the most dramatic moments in baseball history, and it secured Thomson's place in baseball history.

Thomson was a three-time All-Star and also won the Hickok Belt as the top professional athlete of the year in 1951. In addition to playing for the Giants, he also played for the Milwaukee Braves, the Baltimore Orioles, and the Chicago Cubs. Thomson had a career batting average of .270 with 264 home runs and 1026 RBI's. He was inducted into the Scottish Sports Hall of Fame in 2002 and passed away on August 16, 2010, at the age of 86. Despite his incredible career, Thomson will always be remembered for one iconic moment in baseball history, and his legacy continues to inspire baseball players to this day.
