Bobby Thomson was an American professional baseball player who played for the New York Giants during his career. He was born on October 25, 1923, in Glasgow, Scotland, but grew up in Staten Island, New York. Thomson started his baseball career with the Giants in 1946 and played for them until 1953. Thomson is widely known for his legendary “Shot Heard ‘Round the World”. It is one of the most memorable moments in baseball history. It refers to the home run Thomson hit in the bottom of the ninth inning of the National League playoff game in 1951 against the Brooklyn Dodgers at the Polo Grounds.
