Bobo Newsom Autographs
Bobo Newsom was a well-known American baseball player who had a career that spanned over two decades. Born on August 11, 1907, in Hartsville, South Carolina, Newsom made his major league baseball debut in 1929 with the Brooklyn Robins. Throughout his career, he played for several different teams, including the Washington Senators, the Brooklyn Dodgers, and the New York Yankees. Newsom was known for his pitching ability and was regarded as one of the best pitchers of his time.
During his career, Newsom played in over 500 games and had a record of 211 wins and 222 losses. He pitched over 3,800 innings and recorded over 1,600 strikeouts. Newsom was known for his curveball and his ability to change speeds. He was also a very durable pitcher, and in a number of seasons, he pitched over 200 innings. Newsom played in three All-Star games, in 1938, 1940, and 1941, and he was considered one of the best players in the league.
After retiring from baseball, Newsom remained active in the sport, coaching and scouting for several different teams. He was inducted into both the South Carolina Sports Hall of Fame and the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame. In 1943, Newsom also briefly played football for the Brooklyn Dodgers of the National Football League in order to help keep the team afloat during World War II. Bobo Newsom passed away on December 7, 1962, but his legacy as a talented and respected baseball player remains intact to this day.
