Bret Saberhagen is a retired American baseball pitcher who was born on April 11, 1964, in Illinois. He played 16 seasons in Major League Baseball with the Kansas City Royals, New York Mets, Colorado Rockies, and Boston Red Sox. Saberhagen won two Cy Young Awards in his illustrious career and was renowned for his pinpoint accuracy on the mound. He was considered one of the most dominant pitchers during his era. Bret Saberhagen started his career with the Royals in 1984 and proved to be an immediate success. In his first season, he recorded a 3.48 ERA in 157 innings pitched. However, his breakthrough year was in 1985, where he helped lead the Royals to a World Series championship. He won the World Series Most Valuable Player award that year and also won the AL Cy Young award. Saberhagen won his second Cy Young award in 1989, and he finished his career with a 3.34 ERA, 1,715 strikeouts, and 167 wins.

Injuries hampered Saberhagen in the latter stages of his career, but he still managed to put up impressive numbers. He retired in 2001 and is considered one of the best pitchers of his generation. His career highlights include two Cy Young Awards, a World Series championship, a World Series MVP award, and a five-time All-Star selection.
