Tomko began his professional career as a pitcher for the Reds, where he played for three seasons before moving on to the Seattle Mariners in 1998. He had his best season in 2003 with the San Francisco Giants, earning a career-high of 13 wins and a 4.04 ERA in 32 starts. Tomko's career spanned more than a decade, during which he pitched for several teams, including the St. Louis Cardinals, San Diego Padres, Los Angeles Dodgers, Kansas City Royals, and Atlanta Braves.
