Born on March 11, 1972, in Tucson, Arizona, Anderson played college baseball at the University of Arizona, where he was named the College World Series Most Outstanding Player in 1986. Anderson made his MLB debut in 1993 with the Angels, where he spent two seasons before being traded to the Cleveland Indians in 1995. He played for the Indians for four seasons and was part of the team that made it to the World Series in 1997 but lost to the Florida Marlins. He also played for the Arizona Diamondbacks, Milwaukee Brewers, and Kansas City Royals before retiring in 2005.

Throughout his career, Anderson was known for his solid pitching and was particularly effective against left-handed batters. He was also a two-time All-Star, first in 1998 with the Indians and then in 2003 with the Diamondbacks. Anderson finished his career with a record of 82-83, a 4.74 ERA, and 877 strikeouts in 1534 innings pitched. Following his retirement, Anderson became a color commentator for the Milwaukee Brewers and also worked as an analyst for ESPN.
