Bruce Bochte was born on November 12, 1950, in Pasadena, California. He is a former American professional baseball player who started his major league career with the California Angels in 1974, playing outfield, first baseman, and designated hitter positions. Bochte's outstanding performance led him to three All-Star selections in 1979, 1980 and 1982. He also won a Gold Glove award in 1979 for being the best fielding first baseman in the American League.
Bochte's best seasons were in 1979 and 1980, where he hit above .300 with 15 home runs and 90 RBIs for each season. He established his career highs in home runs (21) and RBIs (100) while playing for the Seattle Mariners in 1980. Bochte's batting discipline was remarkable, as he consistently finished among the league leaders in walks for several years, being patient at the plate, and having excellent "bat-to-ball" skills, never striking out more than 41 times in a season. During his 12-year career, Bochte played for four different teams - California Angels, Seattle Mariners, Oakland Athletics, and San Francisco Giants, he finished with a lifetime batting average of .282, 1,540 hits, 100 home runs, and 732 runs batted in.
