Carson Kelly is a professional baseball catcher for the Arizona Diamondbacks, born on July 14, 1994, in Pennsylvania. He was initially drafted in the second round of the 2012 Major League Baseball Draft by the St. Louis Cardinals, and he made his debut in the MLB in 2016. Carson is known to be a reliable catcher with excellent defensive skills, and he is also a decent hitter.
During his time with the Cardinals, Kelly was considered one of their top prospects. He made his MLB debut on September 5, 2016. Over the years, he played as both a catcher and first baseman for the team, and his performance steadily improved. In 2018, he was part of the Cardinals' postseason roster as their backup catcher. During this season, he hit his first career home run, and his performance at the plate further improved in the following season.
In 2019, the Cardinals traded Kelly to the Arizona Diamondbacks, where he became a starting catcher. During his debut season for the Diamondbacks, he hit nine home runs and batted .245 in just 314 at-bats. He continued to improve in 2020, even with the shortened season, putting up an excellent .289 batting average with five homers and 21 RBIs.
