Despite his success as a player, Stengel is perhaps best known for his managerial career, which began in 1934 with the Dodgers. Stengel went on to manage several teams over the course of his career, including the Boston Braves, New York Yankees, and New York Mets. It was with the Yankees that Stengel had his greatest success, leading the team to ten pennants and seven World Series championships over a twelve-year period.

Stengel was known for his eccentricity and his ability to motivate and inspire his players. His famous quote, "The secret of managing is to keep the guys who hate you away from the guys who are undecided," illustrates his unique approach to the game. Stengel was also known for his sense of humor and his colorful language, which endeared him to fans and players alike.
