Cecil Travis was an American Major League Baseball player who was born on August 8, 1913, in Riverdale, Georgia. He started his professional baseball career in 1933 for the Charlotte Hornets of the Piedmont League. He was already a standout with a batting average of .346 by the end of his first season with the Hornets. Two years later, he received a promotion to play with the Cleveland Indians in the American League. However, Travis's baseball career was cut short when he was drafted to serve in World War II. While serving in the Army, he injured his knee in a cobbler accident and never fully recovered, eventually ending his baseball career. Regardless, Cecil Travis accomplished much in his career, and his accomplishments still make him an important figure in both Washington Senators and American League history.
