During his career, Guante was a valuable addition to any team he played for. He was particularly successful with the Pittsburgh Pirates between 1985 and 1987 when he was part of a dominant bullpen that helped the team win back-to-back division championships. In 1985, he had his best season, recording a 6-3 record with a 2.91 ERA and 72 strikeouts. Guante's most memorable performance came in Game 2 of the 1987 National League Championship series when he pitched two scoreless innings in a game the Pirates won 7-1.

After retiring from baseball in 1993, Guante returned to the Dominican Republic and started coaching young players. He also worked as a broadcaster and analyst, sharing his vast knowledge of the game with audiences both in the Dominican Republic and the United States. Though he didn't achieve the same level of recognition as some of his peers, Cecilio Guante left his mark on baseball history as a reliable reliever and mentor to the next generation of players.
