Chris Reitsma Autographs
Chris Reitsma was born on December 31, 1977, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He went to school at Calvin Christian High School in Edmonton, Canada. Reitsma was an accomplished baseball player in high school and was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 11th round of the 1996 MLB draft. However, he decided not to sign and instead attended college at the University of Calgary.
After two years of college ball, Reitsma was drafted again, this time by the Cincinnati Reds in the first round of the 1999 MLB draft. He quickly worked his way through the minor leagues and made his MLB debut in 2001 for the Reds. Over the next five seasons, Reitsma was a reliable bullpen arm for the Reds, appearing in over 260 games and posting a 4.05 ERA. He even notched 15 saves in 2004, taking over the closer role midway through the season.
After the 2005 season, Reitsma signed a two-year deal with the Atlanta Braves. While he had some success in his first season with the Braves, posting a 3.93 ERA over 68 innings, his second season was marred by injuries. Reitsma appeared in just 13 games in 2007 before being released by the Braves. He attempted a comeback in 2008 with the Seattle Mariners but was ultimately released again. Reitsma retired from baseball in 2009 with a career ERA of 4.17 over eight seasons.
