Chuck Diering was born on December 3, 1923, in Buffalo, New York. He attended Lafayette High School, where he played basketball, football, and baseball. He was signed by the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1942 as an outfielder and began his professional career at the age of 18. Diering's best season in the majors came in 1952 when he batted .306 with 9 home runs and 38 runs batted in for the St. Louis Cardinals. He was primarily a left fielder, but he also spent time in center field and right field. Diering was known for his speed and his ability to track down fly balls. He was also a skilled baserunner, stealing 30 bases in 1951 and 24 bases in 1952.

Diering played for eight seasons in the major leagues, spending time with the St. Louis Cardinals, New York Giants and Baltimore Orioles. He retired from baseball in 1956 with a career batting average of .266 with 33 home runs and 281 runs batted in.
