Chuck Thompson was a cherished sports broadcaster, voice actor, and writer, who spent over three decades behind the microphone calling Baltimore Orioles baseball games. Born on June 10, 1921, in Palmer Springs, Virginia, Chuck started his career struggling to make ends meet after serving in the navy during World War II. He had a stroke of good luck in 1949 when he was working for the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference radio network, and one of the conference’s schools, Marshall University asked him to fill in for their regular announcer. It was that chance that led him to be hired by the Baltimore Orioles, where he became an iconic voice in Orioles history. More about Chuck Thompson
