Connie JohnsonConnie Johnson was an American baseball pitcher who played in the Major Leagues from 1941 to 1952. Born on December 22, 1922, in Stonega, Virginia, Johnson was a hard-throwing right-hander who played for the Washington Senators, Baltimore Orioles, St. Louis Browns, and Chicago White Sox. He was known for his fastball and his impressive strikeout rates, which made him a formidable opponent on the mound.
Johnson's baseball career began in the minor leagues, where he played for several teams before being called up to the Washington Senators in 1941. He played for the Senators until 1947, when he was traded to the Baltimore Orioles. While with the Orioles, Johnson had one of his best seasons in 1949, when he won 15 games and struck out 126 batters. He also set a career high in strikeouts with 142 in 1950.
After playing for the St. Louis Browns in 1951, Johnson was traded to the Chicago White Sox, where he played his final season in 1952. He finished his career with a record of 79 wins and 71 losses, a 3.44 ERA, and 791 strikeouts. While he may not be as well-known as some of his contemporaries, Connie Johnson was a talented pitcher who made a significant impact on the game of baseball.
