Cookie Rojas Autographs
Cookie Rojas was a baseball shortstop and second baseman who played professionally from 1962 to 1977. Born in Cuba in 1939, Rojas moved to the United States in 1955 and signed with the Cincinnati Reds organization a few years later. He made his major league debut with the Reds in 1962 and played for Cincinnati until 1965, when he was traded to the Philadelphia Phillies. It was with the Phillies that Rojas had his best years, earning two All-Star selections in 1965 and 1967.
After playing for the Phillies, Rojas played for several other teams over the next decade, including the St. Louis Cardinals, Kansas City Royals, and California Angels. He played primarily as a second baseman and was known for his solid defensive skills and ability to hit for average. Over the course of his career, Rojas batted .263 with 54 home runs, 421 runs batted in, and 161 stolen bases in 1,765 games. He also became known for his leadership qualities and was a popular teammate on every team he played for.
After retiring from baseball in 1977, Rojas remained involved in the sport as a coach and manager. He served as a coach for several teams, including the Montreal Expos, Anaheim Angels, and Philadelphia Phillies. He also managed the California Angels from 1988 to 1991 and led them to a playoff appearance in 1986. Rojas’s contributions to baseball were recognized in 1985 when he was inducted into the Hispanic Heritage Baseball Museum Hall of Fame. Today, he is remembered as a hard-working player who gave his all on the field and made a significant impact on the sport of baseball.
