Dan WheelerDan Wheeler is a former Major League Baseball (MLB) pitcher who was born on December 10, 1977, in Providence, Rhode Island. He played for multiple teams during his career, including the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, Houston Astros, Boston Red Sox, and Cleveland Indians. Wheeler received a scholarship to study at Central Arizona College in 1995, where he played college baseball as a pitcher. In 1996, he was drafted by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in the 34th round of the MLB draft.
Wheeler made his MLB debut on April 5, 1999, pitching for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. During his rookie season, he pitched in 64 games, recording an ERA of 4.11 and a record of 4-4. He continued his successful career in Tampa Bay, posting a career-best ERA of 2.52 in 2006, which was the second-lowest among all MLB relievers. Throughout his career, Wheeler was known for his ability to pitch in high-pressure situations, and he recorded 43 saves during his time with the Houston Astros.
In March 2013, Dan Wheeler announced his retirement from baseball. He finished his career with a record of 25-43, 47 saves, and an ERA of 3.98 in 595 appearances. After retiring from baseball, Wheeler continued to be involved in the sport, serving as a co-host on a radio show that discusses the Tampa Bay Rays. Dan Wheeler's dedication and passion for baseball are recognized by his fans even today.
