Dave Anderson is a former Major League Baseball player and coach, known for his 10-year career as a versatile infielder for the Los Angeles Dodgers and his subsequent coaching stints with the Texas Rangers and the Detroit Tigers. Anderson was born on August 1, 1960, in Louisville, Kentucky, and attended Eastern High School in Louisville before attending Memphis State University.
Anderson was drafted by the Dodgers in the first round of the 1981 amateur draft, and he made his debut with the team in 1983 as a shortstop. He quickly became known for his defensive prowess and versatility, playing multiple positions in the infield and outfield throughout his career. Anderson was a key contributor to the Dodgers' success in the 1980s, including their World Series championship in 1988, and he was named the team's "Mr. Versatility" for his ability to play any position.
After retiring from playing in 1992, Anderson transitioned to coaching and spent several years with the Rangers organization before being hired as the Tigers' third base coach in 2011. He remained with the Tigers until 2014, when he was let go along with the rest of the coaching staff after a disappointing season.
