Dave Concepcion Autographs
Dave Concepcion was born on June 17th, 1948, in Aragua de Barcelona, Venezuela. He began his baseball career in the international leagues in 1967 when he signed with the Cincinnati Reds, and he played for their minor-league affiliates until he was called up to the major leagues in 1970. Concepcion quickly made a name for himself as an outstanding shortstop for the Reds and became an integral part of the team's success in the 1970s.
Concepcion spent his entire 19-year career with the Cincinnati Reds, from 1970 to 1988. Over that time, he played in over 2,000 games and accumulated over 2000 hits. He was a vital part of the team's "Big Red Machine" in the 1970s, helping them win back-to-back World Series titles in 1975 and 1976. One of the most recognizable aspects of Concepcion's game was his exceptional defensive ability, which earned him five consecutive Gold Glove Awards from 1974 to 1978. He was an All-Star on nine occasions, and in 1982 he finished eighth in the National League Most Valuable Player voting.
Concepcion's contributions to the Reds' success in the 1970s cannot be overstated. He was a mainstay in the infield, and his leadership on and off the field was instrumental in the team's championship seasons. He retired in 1988, and in 2000, the Reds retired his number 13 jersey in recognition of his outstanding career with the team. Dave Concepcion was inducted into the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame in 2000, cementing his status as one of the greatest players in team history.
