Dave LaPoint Autographs
Dave LaPoint is a former Major League Baseball player who spent 11 seasons in the big leagues as a pitcher. He was born on July 29, 1959, in Glens Falls, New York, and was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the second round of the 1977 Major League Baseball draft. After spending parts of three seasons with the Brewers, LaPoint was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals in 1983. He enjoyed his best season in 1984, going 14-8 with a 3.34 ERA and helping the Cardinals reach the World Series.
LaPoint spent the next few seasons bouncing around the league, playing for the San Francisco Giants, Detroit Tigers, and New York Yankees. He ended his career with the Seattle Mariners in 1992. Over his 11-year MLB career, LaPoint posted a record of 65-58 with a 3.89 ERA in 1,095 innings pitched. He also recorded two saves and struck out 455 batters. LaPoint was known for his solid control, only walking 280 batters in his career, as well as his ability to induce ground balls, averaging 1.30 ground balls per fly ball.
After retiring from baseball, LaPoint became a baseball analyst for Fox Sports and then for the New York Yankees. He also started a baseball camp for children in Glens Falls, New York, and became involved in coaching youth baseball. LaPoint remains active in the world of baseball, and his contributions to the game are still remembered by many.
