In the following season, Sappelt was traded to the Chicago Cubs, where he played for two seasons. During his career, he played in 132 games, batting .251 with six home runs and 25 RBIs.

After his career ended, Sappelt continued to shine in the world of baseball by teaching young players how to hone their skills. He now serves as the hitting coach at Grace College in Winona Lake, Indiana, where he helps student-athletes improve their batting techniques and overall game strategies.
