Del Rice Autographs
Del Rice was a professional baseball player who played catcher in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the St. Louis Cardinals, Cleveland Indians, and Milwaukee Braves. Rice was born on October 27, 1922, in Portsmouth, Ohio, and grew up in nearby West Portsmouth. Rice was an excellent athlete in high school and was drafted by the Cardinals in 1942.
After serving in the military during World War II, Rice returned to professional baseball and made his MLB debut with the Cardinals in 1945. Rice became known for his defensive skills and was considered one of the best defensive catchers in the league during his time. Rice won two National League championships and two World Series championships with the Cardinals before being traded to the Indians in 1954.
Rice played for the Indians for two seasons before being traded to the Milwaukee Braves, where he won another National League championship in 1957. Rice retired from baseball after the 1959 season and went on to become a coach and manager in the minor leagues. Del Rice passed away on July 8, 1983, in Cincinnati, Ohio. Rice’s achievements as a catcher and his contribution to professional baseball will always be remembered.
