Richard Benjamin "Dick" Cole was an American professional baseball player who was born on June 29, 1919, in Arcadia, California, and passed away on December 17, 2020, at the age of 101. He was primarily known for his career in the minor leagues, where he played as a catcher for over 20 years. Cole's baseball career began in 1937 when he joined the San Diego Padres, a minor league team affiliated with the Pacific Coast League. He played for several minor league teams over the years, including the Sacramento Solons, the Seattle Rainiers, and the Los Angeles Angels. Cole's most successful season was in 1947 when he played for the San Diego Padres, where he hit .295 with 17 home runs and 92 runs batted in. His excellent performance earned him the Pacific Coast League Most Valuable Player Award that year. Cole was also known for his strong defensive skills as a catcher, and he set a minor league record for most consecutive errorless games by a catcher with 229 games.
