Dick Farrell Autograph

Dick Farrell was an American professional baseball player who was born on April 6, 1934, in Boston, Massachusetts. He attended Northeastern University, where he played collegiate baseball and was later signed by the Philadelphia Phillies in 1956. Farrell spent five seasons with the Phillies before being traded to the Houston Colt .45s in 1962. With the Colt .45s/Astros, he enjoyed his best years, earning an All-Star selection in 1962 and finishing in the top ten in National League Cy Young voting in both 1963 and 1964. Farrell was a durable starter for the Colt .45s/Astros in the early 1960s, leading the league in innings pitched in 1962 and 1963. He was known for his hard fastball and sharp-breaking curveball, which kept batters off balance. In 1963, Farrell led the Astros to their first-ever winning season, going 20-10 with a 2.68 ERA and finishing third in National League Cy Young voting. He was also a solid hitter, earning a Silver Slugger award in 1962 with a .271 batting average and four home runs.

After retiring as a player, Farrell remained involved in baseball as a coach and scout. He worked for the Astros, Philadelphia Phillies, and Montreal Expos before passing away on December 10, 1996, at the age of 62. Farrell’s contributions to the game of baseball, both as a player and a coach, will never be forgotten. His determination and hard work helped him achieve success both on and off the field.
