Dick Hyde was an American professional baseball pitcher who played for the Chicago White Sox, the Washington Senators, and the Baltimore Orioles during his career. Hyde was born on March 7, 1928, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was known for his outstanding fastball and his ability to throw a devastating slider, which made him a dominant force on the mound. Hyde made his major league debut with the Chicago White Sox in 1955, and he quickly established himself as one of the best relief pitchers in the league. He finished his rookie season with a 3-1 record and a 1.75 ERA, and he went on to have an even better season in 1956. That year, he recorded a 9-1 record, a 1.75 ERA, and 10 saves, and he was named to the American League All-Star team.

Despite his success with the White Sox, Hyde was traded to the Washington Senators in 1957, where he continued to excel as a relief pitcher. He recorded a career-high 11 saves in 1958, and he finished his career with a record of 17-14, 51 saves, and a 3.75 ERA. Hyde retired from baseball in 1961, and he passed away on June 9, 1997, at the age of 69. His contributions to the game of baseball will always be remembered by fans and players alike.
