Radatz began his career in 1962 with the Boston Red Sox, where he quickly established himself as one of the dominant relievers in the league. During his rookie year, he set a record for relief pitchers by striking out 162 batters and recording 24 saves. He continued to excel over the next few seasons, earning three consecutive All-Star selections from 1963 to 1965. Radatz led the league in saves with 29 in 1964 and posted a career-high ERA of 2.29 in 1965.

Unfortunately, injuries and arm troubles began to take a toll on Radatz's career in the late 1960s, and he was never able to regain his dominant form. He retired from professional baseball after the 1969 season with a career record of 49 wins, 39 losses, and 3.13 ERA. Despite his relatively short career, Radatz is remembered as one of the greatest relief pitchers of the 1960s, and his impressive statistics earned him induction into the Red Sox Hall of Fame in 1995.
