Dom DiMaggio Autograph

Dom DiMaggio was an American professional baseball player, born on February 12, 1917, in San Francisco, California. He started his career in the major leagues with the Boston Red Sox in 1940 and played as a center fielder through 1953. He was known for his outstanding outfield defensive skills, and his nickname "The Little Professor" was given to him due to his clean-cut image, strong work ethic, and studious approach to the game. Dom DiMaggio was a seven-time All-Star and compiled a career batting average of .298 in 1,680 games played. He led the American League in runs scored twice, stolen bases once, and triples three times and was considered the best ever center fielder in Red Sox history. He was also a key member of the 1946 Red Sox team that played in the World Series, but they lost to the St. Louis Cardinals in seven games. DiMaggio retired from baseball after the 1953 season and was later inducted into the Boston Red Sox Hall of Fame in 1958.

Aside from his baseball career, Dom DiMaggio also served in the US Navy during World War II. He volunteered for duty, and his contributions were recognized with four battle stars. After his playing career, he remained involved with baseball as a broadcaster and as a special assistant to the Red Sox.
