Don Johnson was born on September 9, 1926, in North Carolina. Johnson was a prolific and versatile pitcher who played in the Major League Baseball. He was a left-handed pitcher who earned a reputation for his deceptive pitching style that could deceive batters. Johnson played for four teams during his 13-year career in the Major League. He made his debut in the league with the Philadelphia Athletics in 1947 and went on to play for the St. Louis Browns, Baltimore Orioles, and Chicago White Sox. More about Don Johnson

During his baseball career, Johnson had a record of 113 wins and 99 losses, with an earned run average (ERA) of 3.62. His best seasons were his first two years with the Baltimore Orioles, where he had a combined record of 36 wins and 21 losses. In 1949, he led the American League with 40 games pitched, and his 15 complete games were tied for the most in the league. Johnson's pitching was a significant factor in the Orioles winning the American League pennant that same year. He was also highly regarded for his ability to control the pace of the game and his composure under pressure.

After retiring from baseball in 1958, Johnson earned a master's degree in education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He went on to teach and coach college baseball and golf until his retirement in 1988. Johnson also continued to be actively involved in baseball by serving as a scout for the Atlanta Braves and coaching youth baseball teams.
