Don Robinson was born on June 8, 1957, in Ashland, Kentucky, USA. He was a professional baseball pitcher who played for various Major League Baseball (MLB) teams during his career spanning over 14 years. Robinson made his MLB debut with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1978 as a right-handed pitcher. He played with the Pirates for seven seasons and then joined the San Francisco Giants in 1985, where he spent another seven seasons. Robinson was known for his hard-throwing fastball that clocked above 90 miles per hour. During his career, he won 109 games with a 3.79 ERA and 1,224 strikeouts. In addition to his fastball, Robinson also refined a slider pitch, which he used effectively. Robinson's most notable performance in the MLB came in 1987 when he recorded his career-best season with the San Francisco Giants, winning 17 games and posting a 2.41 ERA.

After his baseball career ended, Robinson returned to his home state, Kentucky, where he coached baseball for a high school team for several years. He was inducted into the Kentucky Athletic Hall of Fame in recognition of his successful baseball career. Robinson also enjoyed hunting and fishing during his time away from baseball. In 2020, Don Robinson was elected into the Pirates Hall of Fame, which honors the best players in the Pirates' history.
