Doug Ault Autographs
Douglas Wilmer Ault was an American professional baseball player born on March 9, 1950, in Beaumont, Texas, United States. He played as a first baseman and outfielder, known for his powerful left-handed swing. He began his baseball career in 1969 as an amateur player with the Saddleback College team in California, where he played for two seasons. In 1970, he was selected by the Texas Rangers in the first round of the Major League Baseball draft and played his rookie season with them.
Ault played seven seasons in the Major League Baseball (MLB), starting with four seasons for the Texas Rangers from 1970 to 1973. He made his MLB debut on July 17, 1970, and hit his first home run in his second game. In 1973, he achieved a batting average of .310, with 11 home runs and 41 runs batted in. After the 1973 season, Ault was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays, where he played for three years from 1974 to 1976. He became the first player to hit a home run in Toronto Blue Jays’ history on April 7, 1977, in the team’s inaugural game.
Ault had a career batting average of .241, with 36 home runs and 126 RBIs in 448 games. After his retirement, he returned to his hometown, where he worked as a businessman and coach. He was inducted into the Beaumont Athletic Hall of Fame in 1992. Ault passed away on December 22, 2004, at the age of 54, due to a heart attack. He will be remembered as a talented baseball player, who helped shape the Toronto Blue Jays as one of its original players.
