Davis made his Major League debut with the Rangers in 1999 and pitched for them for three seasons before being traded to the Toronto Blue Jays. He also played for the Milwaukee Brewers, Arizona Diamondbacks, and Chicago Cubs during his career. Davis was known for his unconventional pitching style, which included a high leg kick and a delivery that often featured multiple pauses and hesitations before he released the ball. Despite this unorthodox approach, Davis was able to enjoy a successful career, finishing with a 92-108 record, 4.45 ERA, and 1,136 strikeouts over 1,686 innings pitched.

Off the field, Davis was known for his charitable work, including his involvement with the Doug Davis Foundation, which provides support and resources for families affected by cancer. Davis was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2008 and underwent treatment while continuing to pitch for the Diamondbacks. He ultimately beat the disease and returned to the field, demonstrating his resilience and determination both on and off the diamond.
