Doug Rau was born on February 28th, 1948, in Columbus, Ohio. He is a former professional baseball player, who was primarily a left-handed pitcher. Rau started his baseball career in the Los Angeles Dodgers organization in 1971. He made his Major League debut with the Dodgers the following year, where he played until 1979. In 1977, Rau led the National League in games started with 39 and completed nine of those games.
During his baseball career, Rau was known for his endurance and consistency. He was a reliable pitcher for the Dodgers, often pitching deep into games and providing his team with a chance to win. Rau was a part of the Dodgers' 1974 World Series team and was instrumental in the Dodgers' success that year. While he never won a Cy Young Award or an All-Star selection, Rau consistently put up solid numbers throughout his career, finishing with a career ERA of 3.35 and a record of 85-77.
After retiring from baseball in 1983, Rau became a coach and scout for various teams, including the Philadelphia Phillies, San Diego Padres, and Seattle Mariners. He was inducted into the Ohio Baseball Hall of Fame in 2013, recognizing his contributions to the game. Today, Rau continues to follow baseball and is considered one of the game's respected figures, having served as a mentor to numerous players and coaches over the years.
